It wasn’t the usual season finale for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, with race two cancelled after a heavy rain and sand storm hit Doha on Saturday morning. But records were still equalled and a championship was still decided in WorldSSP.

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was on the hunt for two records in Qatar, the overall points scored and Doug Polen’s wins in a season. Taking the victory under the floodlights on Friday night, Rea was able to equal Polen’s record with 17 secured in 2018. But it wasn’t to be for the points record – which he would be beating himself – as WorldSBK race two was cancelled on Saturday evening.

But for the FIM Supersport World Championship, the title was still to be decided and their race was run, with a shorter amount of laps. Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) took his second win of the season, but the true battle was between Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing) and Jules Cluzel (NRT), for the podium and for the title. Playing it calm, Cortese was able to finish the race and be crowned WorldSSP champion.
